1. Recipe

Traditional Czech Goulash

Difficulty: medium

Preparation time: 2 hours

Ingredients:

  • 500 g beef for goulash
  • 2 large onions
  • 2 tablespoons goulash seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons lard
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon tomato paste
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Procedure:

  1. Sauté the chopped onions in lard until golden brown.
  2. Add the meat, season with salt, pepper, and goulash seasoning.
  3. Sear until the meat turns brown.
  4. Add flour, stir, and sauté briefly.
  5. Add tomato paste and enough water to submerge the meat.
  6. Simmer the goulash on low heat until tender, stirring occasionally.
  7. Serve with dumplings or bread.

Spicy Goulash Soup

Difficulty: easy

Preparation time: 1 hour 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 300 g beef
  • 1 tablespoon lard
  • 1 onion
  • 2 tablespoons goulash seasoning
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 l beef broth
  • 1 potato
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Procedure:

  1. Sauté finely chopped onion in lard.
  2. Add chopped meat, season with salt, pepper, and goulash seasoning.
  3. Sear until brown, then add finely chopped bell pepper and tomato.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a boil.
  5. Add diced potato and cook until both the meat and potato are tender.
  6. Adjust seasoning as needed and serve with fresh bread.
